The specialist rooms journey, step 1 of 6

Booked against a referral that is valid on the day

The referral arrives in the same inbox as any other, and the front desk books the patient against it. A referral that has run out shows up before the patient arrives.

The rooms appointment book in HealthOS, with a column for each specialist and the day's bookings made against each patient's referral.
Who takes part

The people at this step

The GP

Sends the referral. The referring doctor and its validity are recorded once and reused on later visits.

The front desk

Books from an appointment book with a column for each specialist: click to book, drag to move.

The specialist

Has their own day view.

What happens

Step by step

  1. The referral arrives

It lands in the inbox with the referring doctor and validity period recorded.

  2. A booking against it

Each appointment is made against the patient's referral, with its validity on the day of the visit.

  3. Checked before the day

A referral that will have run out by the visit shows up before the patient arrives, rather than when the claim is rejected.

What the next step gets

The visit starts with a patient who is booked against a referral that will still be valid.
